*Marlin 1893 Serial Number Lookup Anyone have any info related to how to tell where a marlin was manufactured. I did find this:

On the left side of the barrel near the receiver will be a small jm stamp if it was made before the

Rimington take over. If you see REM with a border around it, it is made after the Remington take over. Remington eventually moved the serial number from the upper tang to the left side of the receiver. The take over happened in 2010 so serial numbers starting with the numbers 90XXXXXX need to examined closely as that was a transition year. Those with 89XXXXXX, or if any with 88XXXXXX will be all Remington and probably say Illion N.Y. on the barrel in stead of North Haven Cn. ArmsCollectors.com menuLearn - Basics

I got an email back from Marlin about my 336 manufacturing date. The guy said there is no chart he could send me but he did say the serial number: MR22xxxC signifies a manufacture date in 2012. No other information was given. My guess is that it was manufactured in February 2012. Mar 29, 2013 Serious Marlin collector here. The original model designation was 1893. These will be marked 'Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven CT U.S.A./ Patented Oct 11 1887, April 2 1889 1,1893.' The upper tang on early guns is marked either '1893' or 'Model 1893' on slightly later 1893 rifles. Evaluating History of a Gun
